Vineyard and terroir
About half of the estate’s grapes—including most of its Sangiovese—are devoted to CHIANTI CLASSICO. The wine is intended as the clearest expression of each growing season and of the estate’s location between Panzano and Badia a Passignano.
The vineyards have been farmed organically since 2013 and certified organic since 2016, following the required three-year conversion period. Synthetic fertilizers and pesticides are excluded, with organic standards continuing through the cellar.
Grapes
Blend proportions vary by vintage. Latest published vintage (2024): 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo. Sangiovese provides the firm, precise structure, characteristic acidity and capacity to age, while the softer Canaiolo rounds the blend and helps make the wine approachable soon after bottling.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand from late September to early October, with deliberate selection of Sangiovese and Canaiolo. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks, followed by 12–16 days of maceration to retain primary-fruit freshness and aromatic clarity.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months in used oak barrels, gaining depth and subtle nuance without allowing the wood to dominate its varietal character. The concise production description also refers to ageing in tank. Bottling takes place in April after the wine has harmonized.

Label / history
CHIANTI CLASSICO is described as the heart and signature of Poggio al Sole. Its historically rooted Sangiovese–Canaiolo combination balances the strength, acidity and ageing capacity of Sangiovese with the softer character of Canaiolo.
