Questo vino

Grapes

100% Sangiovese.

Vinification

The 2017 wine underwent three days of cold maceration at 5°C, followed by a rapid alcoholic fermentation and an extended three-week maceration.

Ageing

Maturation lasted 24 months in a combination of 500-L French oak tonneaux and 25-hL oak casks. This was followed by 24 months of bottle refinement.

Technical data

The 2017 vintage has an alcohol content of 14.5% ABV. Harvest took place from 18 to 20 September.

Vintage notes

The 2017 growing season brought extreme drought and one of the hottest summers in recent decades. Winter water reserves and the elevation of the vineyards nevertheless supported balanced ripening. The resulting fruit was healthy, concentrated and fully ripe.

Label / history

Altero was first produced in 1983. It has carried Brunello di Montalcino DOCG status since 1995, following a change to the production rules that reduced the minimum period of wood ageing to two years. Its identity combines a classic Brunello foundation with a more contemporary élevage and has developed a particularly strong following abroad, especially in the United States.
