Vineyard and terroir

Pian Bossolino is produced from vineyards in the municipality of Montalcino. The technical sheet places them at 400 m, with 4,000 vines/ha and an average yield of 30 hl/ha. The vines are trained to spurred cordon over grassed soil. The deep Pliocene soils consist mainly of clay marl and are marked by pronounced minerality.

The Mediterranean climate concentrates rainfall in spring and autumn. Frequent winds in the middle hills support vine health, while mild conditions and numerous sunny days foster gradual, complete ripening.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese Grosso.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested manually at full ripeness. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at approximately 26°C for 15 days on the skins, followed by malolactic fermentation in stainless-steel tanks.

Ageing

Maturation comprises 48 months in 25 hl Slavonian oak casks and 20 months in 225 L French oak barrels. The wine then rests in bottle for a further six months before release.
