Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The production zone is Poggio la Mozza in Grosseto. The estate lies entirely within the Morellino di Scansano DOCG district and has 35 hectares of vineyards planted at approximately 100 metres above sea level. The north-west-facing vines grow in slightly acidic sandy soil originating from an ancient seabed. Yield is 7,000 kilograms per hectare. The sandy setting contributes to soft, elegant tannins.
Grapes
90% Sangiovese, with the remaining 10% comprising Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
Vinification
Harvest takes place during the final two weeks of September and the first week of October. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled cement tanks. Two remontages are performed daily during a 20-day maceration.
Ageing
The wine matures for one year in oak barrels that have previously been used two or three times. An intermediate transfer takes place during this period. At least six further months of refinement precede release.
