Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from two estate-owned vineyard plots. Le Prata lies at 507 m above sea level and faces south-west, while La Torre lies at 420 m and faces south-east. The vines are Guyot trained at a density of 5,952 plants per hectare, with a yield of 55–60 quintals per hectare. The two plots are vinified and aged separately before being brought together for bottling.
Grapes
100% certified-organic Sangiovese.
Vinification
The wine undergoes a long spontaneous fermentation. The fruit from Le Prata and La Torre is vinified separately.
Ageing
The separate vineyard lots are aged for approximately 50 months in a single 30 hl barrel before being combined for bottling.
Technical data
Alcohol: 14.50% vol. Production comprised 3,500 bottles of 0.75 l, 300 jeroboams and five special rehoboams. Listed formats are 0.75 l, 1.5 l and 3 l.
Tasting profile
Brilliant royal-garnet red. The fine, elegant bouquet combines dried flowers, small red fruits, undergrowth, spices, liquorice and balsamic herbs. The palate is full, savoury and exceptionally long, with notable depth and intensity balanced by a finely defined tannic structure. The finish has remarkable persistence and a lingering expression of fruit.
Vintage notes
The 2019 growing season was highly variable. The first half of spring was warmer and drier than the seasonal average, followed by frequent rain in May that built water reserves ahead of a very hot summer. Pronounced temperature variation in the vineyards, well-distributed rainfall and ideal conditions during harvest supported excellent grape ripeness.
Label / history
The 2019 is the estate's fifth release of Brunello di Montalcino Riserva. The Riserva selection begins in the vineyard, when parcels show qualities considered distinct enough for this limited bottling.
