Vineyard and terroir
The Nero d’Avola comes from calcareous-clay vineyards known locally as trubi, at an average altitude of 330 m above sea level. The dry, cracked and mineral-rich terrain lies around Butera in central-southern Sicily.
Grapes
100% Nero d’Avola.
Vinification
The must ferments with the skins in stainless-steel tanks at 28–30 °C for about 15 days. Malolactic fermentation also takes place in stainless steel.
Ageing
Maturation lasts 1 year in 30- and 60-hl Slavonian oak casks, followed by a few months in bottle.
Technical data
Nero d’Avola Sicilia DOC. Alcohol: 13.5% vol. Available in 375 ml, 750 ml and 1,500 ml bottles.
Tasting profile
Bright, fairly deep ruby red. Intense cherry and blueberry aromas mingle with violet and myrtle, followed by delicate spice and pleasant balsamic nuances. Dry and refined on the palate, with good structure and persistence. The floral and balsamic notes return, leading to a light almond touch on the finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16–18 °C. Pair with flavourful dishes, grilled meats and well-aged cheeses.
Label / history
Amìra derives from the Arabic amīr, meaning “prince.” The name presents the wine as a pure expression of Nero d’Avola from Butera and links it with a landscape described through mirages and wonders.
