Vineyard and terroir

This single-vineyard Gran Selezione comes from Vigna Gittori in Gaiole in Chianti. The organically managed, ICEA-certified vineyard lies at 450–500 metres above sea level on limestone and clay. For the 2022 technical sheet, the vines are 50 years old, trained to Guyot and spurred cordon, planted at 4,000 vines per hectare and cropped at 40 q/ha.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese.

Vinification

The 2022 grapes were harvested by hand in September and October, with selection in the vineyard and again on a vibrating sorting table. The extended account says they are destemmed before fermentation in unlined Nomblot concrete tanks. The technical sheet describes fermentation with the whole grape. Maceration lasts 25 days.

Ageing

After maceration, the wine is transferred to 500-litre French oak tonneaux that are more than four years old. It matures there for 24 months and receives a further six months in bottle before release. The 2022 vintage was bottled in September 2025.

Technical data

Alcohol: 15.0%. Production of the 2022 vintage: 5,900 numbered 0.75 L bottles and 50 numbered 1.5 L magnums.

Tasting profile

Gittori Sangiovese combines strength and depth of flavour with fine, dynamic tannins. Its distinctive aromatic character motivated its release as a vineyard-designated wine, while the intended style balances power and finesse.

Label / history

Riecine had managed Vigna Gittori for years before purchasing it in 2019. The quality of that vintage prompted the creation of a Gran Selezione dedicated to the parcel, and 2019 became its first vintage.
