Vineyard and terroir

The wine comes from a 0.48-hectare parcel in Castiglione Falletto, above the Pira geographical mention and beside the winery. It occupies the upper part of the historic Rocche di Castiglione hill at 300 metres, with southern exposure. The calcareous-clay soil contains abundant white rock and sand.

Roagna acquired the vineyard in 2016.

Grapes

Nebbiolo from old massal selections. The dedicated vineyard profile dates the vines to the early 1970s, while the wine page describes plantings made during the 1960s and 1970s.

Vinification

The vineyard is harvested by hand into small crates at physiological maturity, assessed through seed ripeness. The grapes receive two manual selections before vinification. Fermentation takes place exclusively in wooden vats with a pied de cuve prepared from indigenous yeasts and lasts approximately ten days. Traditional submerged-cap maceration follows for around 60–70 days.

Ageing

Approximately five years in neutral oak and concrete vats.
