Storia
Establishment on the Blanchis hill
More than twenty years ago, the family behind Ronco Blanchis found a 10-hectare holding on the Blanchis hill in Collio. The family subsequently cultivated vineyards there for more than two decades, building the estate’s identity around white varieties and the character of this particular hillside.
Long-term vineyard research
The family’s work at Blanchis included an extended research programme conducted with Gianni, Marco and Nazareno. One result was 24 File Friulano 2016, a selection drawn from the estate’s 24 finest rows. Production was restricted to 626 bottles, conceived to demonstrate the potential of the Blanchis site.
The 2020 vintage
Favourable conditions in 2020 produced fruit with the character and structure required for extended ageing. The best selections from the Blanchis hill were blended for Blanc de Blanchis Riserva 2020 and retained in the cellar for a long maturation before release.
Present identity
Ronco Blanchis remains focused on white wines connected to the Blanchis hill and Collio. Its range combines varietal expressions of Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon with Chardonnay and a traditional Collio blend based on Friulano, Ribolla Gialla and Malvasia.
Terroir
Ronco Blanchis occupies a 10-hectare holding on the Blanchis hill in Collio, within Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The hillside has its own microclimate, particularly associated with the aromatic development of Sauvignon.
The characteristic soil is ponca, described as ancient calcareous marl or limestone-derived soil. Ribolla Gialla is selected from an area considered especially well suited to the variety, where this substrate supports freshness and complexity.
Pinot Grigio has shown notable productive consistency on the Blanchis hill over the years. Friulano develops another distinctive site response: the grapes can be affected naturally by noble rot, Botrytis cinerea, contributing additional complexity.
Vinificazione
The family has cultivated the vineyards of the Blanchis hill for more than twenty years. Long-term research conducted with Gianni, Marco and Nazareno examined the potential within the holding and led to the identification of 24 particularly distinguished rows.
Site responses differ by variety. Pinot Grigio has maintained consistent productivity over the years, Ribolla Gialla is selected from the part of the property regarded as most suitable to it, and Friulano can undergo natural infection by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea).
The clearest expression of parcel selection is the 24 File project. Fruit was chosen from the estate’s 24 finest rows for the 2016 Friulano selection, from which 626 bottles were produced.
Blanc de Blanchis Riserva 2020 was assembled from the best selections originating on the Blanchis hill. The wine remained in the cellar for prolonged maturation and was presented only after its components had developed fully.
Filosofia
Ronco Blanchis defines its work through the relationship between white varieties and the Blanchis hill. The family’s long-term research seeks to identify the rows and varieties that most clearly express the site’s potential.
The estate’s declared interpretation combines continuity and modernity. Its Vino da Uve Autoctone preserves the longstanding Collio tradition of blending the local varieties Friulano, Ribolla Gialla and Malvasia. Blanc de Blanchis presents a more contemporary approach centred on apparent simplicity, precision and the removal of superfluous elements. The Riserva is intended to convey both the territory and the individual vintage, with release delayed until extended cellar maturation has brought its components into full expression.
