Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from three Tuscan vineyards: Poggio Piglia in Chiusi (9 ha), Greppo in Abbadia di Montepulciano (8 ha), and Casa Lucii in San Gimignano (13 ha).
Grapes
The 2024 blend is 85% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo, 5% Mammolo and 5% Merlot.
Vinification
The Sangiovese is harvested by hand and handled gently. Fermentation uses native yeasts, and no sulphites are used during production.
Ageing
The wine matures for four months, with 30% placed in 300 L American-oak tonneaux. It then refines in bottle for three months before release.
Technical data
The 2024 wine has 12.5% alcohol, pH 3.55, total acidity of 4.99 g/L and residual sugar of 0.22 g/L. Dry extract is 25.78 g/L and phenols are 2,811. Color tonality is 0.85 and color intensity is 4.28. Production totals 160,000 bottles. It is sealed with a bioplastic closure and offered in 375 ml, 750 ml, 1.5 L, 3 L and 5 L formats; the 750 ml Salcheto Light Bordeaux bottle weighs 370 g.
Tasting profile
The color is a deep, nearly opaque ruby with light purple reflections. The intense, fruit-led and floral nose combines red cherry, plum, currant, strawberry, woodland berries and blueberry with potpourri, rose, Sichuan pepper, clove, undergrowth, damp earth and tar. The palate is smooth, ripe, fresh and warm, with a dense but well-integrated tannic weave. Delicate spice accompanies a mineral, persistent finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18–20 °C. Its recommended drinking window is two to three years, and pasta al ragù is the suggested pairing.
Vintage notes
Prolonged extreme summer heat in 2024 caused the vines to restrict fruit ripening. The resulting wine is less full-bodied than usual but defined by freshness and balance.
Label / history
The first vintage was 1997.
