The wine comes from a 2 ha parcel within the Salcheto estate at Montepulciano.

100% Prugnolo Gentile.
Ageing
Maturation lasts 24 months, divided equally between large oak vats and tonneaux. Bottle refinement lasts a further 24 months.
Technical data
The 2019 wine has 15% alcohol, total acidity of 5.03 g/L, pH 3.62, residual sugar of 1.55 g/L, dry extract of 28.54 g/L and 3,609 mg/L phenols. Color tonality is 1.11 and color intensity is 8.54. Production comprises 3,000 bottles. Natural cork and a 400 g standard Bordeaux bottle are used. Formats are 750 ml, 1.5 L, 3 L and 5 L.
Tasting profile
The 2019 opens with fresh leather, forest berries and rose, joined by balsamic and camphor nuances. The compact, elegantly structured palate combines ripe Marasca cherry, black raspberry, licorice and crushed mint. Fine-grained, tightly wound tannins and bright acidity frame a linear, youthful and austere wine with substantial ageing potential.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18–20°C. General expected maturation is 12–15 years; the published tasting window for the 2019 is 2023–2036.
Vintage notes
The 2019 growing season combined a harsh winter with a warm summer. Moderate rain also arrived during the delicate final stage of ripening. The resulting wine balances freshness and elegance with full, intense fruit.
