Vineyard and terroir
Bramante Riserva is made only in exceptional vintages from a selection of the estate’s best grapes. The 2019 fruit came from vineyards in southwestern Montalcino at 500 m above sea level. The vines were approximately 25 years old and yielded 35–60 quintals per hectare (3.5–6 t/ha). The wine is certified organic.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Vinification
The wine macerates on the skins for 25 days and ferments in stainless-steel tanks under controlled temperature.
Ageing
The 2019 vintage matured for approximately three years in 30 hL oak casks. Bramante Riserva is bottled in its fourth year and continues ageing in bottle until release in January of the sixth year following harvest.
Technical data
The 2019 release has 15% alcohol, 0 g/L residual sugar and 65 mg/L total sulphur. Production comprised 3,913 bottles of 750 mL and 70 magnums of 1.5 L.
Vintage notes
The 2019 harvest was exceptional in both quality and quantity. A moderately rainy winter was followed by warm, dry weather in March and April, encouraging even budding and rapid early growth. Heavy May rain slowed development, before two warm, dry months beginning in June restored progress. Véraison began in early August and finished by the end of the month. A warm but moderate September, punctuated by some rain, supported even ripening. Harvest took place on 5–6 October.
Label / history
The wine commemorates Bramante Ferretti, founder of Sanlorenzo, who was born and lived in Montalcino from 3 May 1915 to 29 October 2016.
