Grapes

100% Sangiovese from Montalcino, Tuscany.

Vinification

Vinification takes place in stainless-steel vats at controlled temperature.

Ageing

The wine matures in wooden barrels, followed by at least four months in bottle before its original commercial release. Bottles selected for the Second Release were subsequently kept in the Sanlorenzo cellar under ageing conditions personally managed by owner Luciano Ciolfi.

Technical data

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. The latest published Second Release pairs the 2006 and 2008 vintages in 90 numbered wooden cases, each containing two 750 ml bottles, for a total of 180 bottles.

Tasting profile

Dark, intense garnet red. The generous bouquet combines dried flowers, spices and ripe fruit. The palate is immediately appealing, with good structure and well-extracted tannins, followed by a long finish. The 2006 and 2008 wines are presented as showing longevity, elegance and balance, bringing power and finesse into harmony.

Serving and pairing

Pair with game, bistecca alla Fiorentina, tagliata steak or aged pecorino cheese.

Vintage notes

Second Release editions represented on the wine page comprise 2004 and 2005, 2006 and 2008, 2010, and 2013. The latest published edition combines the 2006 and 2008 vintages in a single collector's case.

Label / history

Second Release was conceived as a limited collector edition drawn from bottles retained in the estate cellar after their initial release. The wooden case and its certificate attest to the bottles' authenticity and their cellaring history.
