Storia
Tenuta San Pietro takes its name from a small church dedicated to Saint Peter, on the grounds of a Benedictine monastery founded in the 11th century. The monks planted the first vineyards. Over the centuries the vineyards passed into the hands of dukes, marquises and kings.
Today the estate combines its long history with a modern outlook. The surrounding buildings are being restored, and new buildings are under construction for a 5-star hotel complex. They are equipped with systems designed to conserve and convert energy and reduce environmental impact.
Terroir
The estate lies in the hills of the commune of Tassarolo, in the Gavi region, between Piedmont and Liguria. Vineyards face southeast and southwest. The climate is favorable and influenced by sea currents. Soils are clay-limestone.
Vinificazione
The estate follows the principles of bio-organic farming. No chemical fertilizers, herbicides or insecticides are used in the vineyard. Only natural additions made from materials found in nature and animal-farming waste are applied. The vineyard team observes the phases of the Moon and other planets to determine the best times for sowing, cultivation and harvest.
Filosofia
A passion for research is a defining part of the estate's approach. Tenuta San Pietro shares its approach to organic farming and winemaking whenever possible. It is a member of Salone Internazionale del vino, an organization that brings together wine producers, distributors and sellers. It publishes In Vino Ethica, a magazine created to communicate its philosophy.
