Storia
The first vintage — 1946
Santa Cristina's history as a wine began with its first vintage in 1946. The eponymous wine subsequently became the foundation of a broader family of wines associated with Tuscan traditions and everyday conviviality.
A dedicated winery in Cortona — 2006
A new Santa Cristina winery was established in 2006, exactly 60 years after the inaugural vintage. Its purpose was to reaffirm the identity of the original wine while renewing the tradition through a dedicated production base. The winery stands by Cortona, an old town on a high Tuscan hill between the directions of Siena and Perugia, overlooking a broad plain on one side and the hill and village on the other.
Quality, research and stylistic development
Vineyard care and cellar management became the basis of a continuing commitment to quality. These activities encouraged ongoing innovation and research involving both indigenous and international grape varieties. The resulting wines differ in origin and expression but are linked by an artisanal stylistic ideal founded on the relationship between vineyard, terroir and human work.
The current chapter
The present range is centred on Santa Cristina Rosso, Santa Cristina Bianco and Giardino Rosé. Rosso is framed as a contemporary expression of Tuscan elegance with deep roots in tradition and everyday life. Bianco draws on Umbrian vineyards and emphasizes natural lightness and freshness. Giardino Rosé interprets the Tuscan landscape in delicate, graceful tones; its name refers to the wine's floral character.
Terroir
The winery is located by Cortona, an historic town set high on a Tuscan hillside, in the area between the directions of Siena and Perugia. Its outlook encompasses an extensive plain on one side and the hill and village on the other.
The range draws on more than one regional setting. Santa Cristina Rosso and Giardino Rosé are connected with the Tuscan landscape and carry Toscana IGT classification. Santa Cristina Bianco originates from vineyards in Umbria, described as a historically important region for white-wine production. The available descriptions do not define elevations, exposures, soils, geological formations, rainfall totals or individual vineyard microclimates.
Vinificazione
Vineyard care is treated as one of the central drivers of quality and as a stimulus for continuing innovation. Work across the range involves both indigenous and international grape varieties. The available material does not identify a conventional, organic, biodynamic or regenerative farming regime, nor does it describe certification, soil cultivation, cover crops, pruning systems, disease protection, irrigation, biodiversity measures, yield limits or a general harvesting and sorting protocol.
Cellar management forms part of Santa Cristina's continuing quality program and is closely associated with innovation and research. The house presents its wines as different expressions sharing an artisanal stylistic identity, shaped by the interaction of vineyards, terroir and human work.
No single production protocol is presented as applying to the winery's entire range. Fermentation vessels, temperatures, maceration, maturation and bottling schedules documented for individual wines vary by label and vintage and therefore do not constitute a universal estate method.
Filosofia
Santa Cristina's declared objective is consistent quality supported by careful vineyard and cellar work. Tradition is not treated as static: the original identity is paired with continuing innovation and research into indigenous and international varieties.
The house defines its common style as artisanal. Although the wines may differ in regional origin and expression, they are intended to reflect an enduring connection among the vineyard, terroir and human dedication to the land. The current presentation carries this balance forward: Rosso combines Tuscan tradition with a contemporary interpretation, Bianco emphasizes lightness and the character of its Umbrian origins, and Giardino Rosé translates the Tuscan landscape into a delicate, refined expression.
