Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from selected vineyards at the Gretole and Santedame estates, in the heart of Castellina in Chianti. The production area is Tuscany.
Grapes
The 2021 blend comprises 80% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Colorino. The grapes are carefully selected during harvest.
Vinification
Alcoholic fermentation and maceration take place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats for approximately 20 days, allowing gentle extraction from the grapes.
Ageing
The wine is aged for 36 months in total. Sangiovese spends 12 months in large Slavonian oak casks, while Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot mature in second-use barriques and tonneaux. Once assembled, the blend continues ageing in concrete vats.
Technical data
Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG, vintage 2021. The release consists of 1,877 individually numbered 1.5-litre magnums.
Tasting profile
Ruby red with garnet highlights. Intense cherry, plum and violet lead into a more complex aromatic profile of eucalyptus, chocolate and black pepper, alongside the ethereal character associated with Riserva Ducale Oro. The palate is broad, silky and persistent, with impressive structure. Elegant, soft tannins are supported by lively acidity.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18 °C with traditional Italian meat dishes.
Vintage notes
The 2021 vintage was selected for the inaugural The Gold Fever collectable edition. Only 1,877 numbered magnums were produced.
Label / history
Riserva Ducale originated in 1927 as a tribute to the wine-loving Duke of Aosta. In 1947, an exceptional vintage prompted the creation of Riserva Ducale Oro, anticipating the idea later embodied by the Gran Selezione category.
The Gold Fever is the first release in a project that will reinterpret Riserva Ducale Oro annually through an artwork from the ORObyRUFFINO collection. This edition takes its name from The Gold Fever by Officine Saffi, a collection of ceramic objects and surfaces inspired by the cultural imagery surrounding gold—from ancient Greek narratives to the nineteenth-century gold rush and its associations with beauty, purity, transcendence and magic. Presented at Milano Design Week 2024, the artwork inspired the bottle's handcrafted ceramic plaque, finished with gold lustre.
