Vineyard and terroir
The Sangiovese Grosso is grown in Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, at 280–320 metres above sea level. The vines are trained to a low spurred cordon, following local tradition, and the harvest begins in October.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese Grosso.
Ageing
Maturation takes place in large Slavonian oak barrels. This traditional approach is intended to develop the wine while preserving its varietal character and flavour.
Technical data
The wine has 14% alcohol by volume. Production is 15,000 Bordeaux bottles, with 750 ml and 1.5 L Magnum formats available.
Tasting profile
The colour is intense ruby red with garnet reflections. The aroma is intense, persistent and refined, combining floral, fruit and spice notes with recognisable varietal character. The palate is dry, warm and soft, with good freshness, savoury character, full body and firm yet soft, unobtrusive tannins. Its enveloping, silky texture gives breadth to an elegant, balanced structure. The finish is long and persistent, recalling the spicy notes found on the nose.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18°C with red meats, game or aged cheeses.
