Vineyard and terroir

Produced in Montalcino, Siena, from vineyards at 280–320 m above sea level. The vines are trained to a low spurred cordon. Riserva begins with a careful manual selection of the finest bunches among the grapes destined for Brunello di Montalcino and is made only in exceptional vintages. Harvest takes place at the beginning of October.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese Grosso.

Ageing

Long maturation in large Slavonian oak barrels softens the tannins while preserving the wine’s power, breadth, elegance and austere character.

Technical data

Brunello di Montalcino D.O.C.G. Riserva. Alcohol: 14% vol. Production: 2,900 Bordeaux bottles. Formats: 0.75 L Bordeaux bottle and 1.5 L Magnum.

Tasting profile

Intense ruby red with garnet reflections. The broad, persistent and finely defined bouquet combines floral, fruity and spicy qualities, with ripe red fruit and spice at its core. The palate opens forcefully with raspberry, blackberry and liquorice. It is dry, warm and supple, yet fresh, tannic and savoury, with mineral character accompanying the polished tannins. Balanced acidity and savouriness support a full, intense and persistent finish. The overall profile is powerful, elegant, structured and austere.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18 °C with red meats, game, aged cheeses and braised dishes. Its depth and persistence also suit contemplative drinking on its own.

Vintage notes

The Riserva is released only from vintages judged exceptional. Published recognition covers the 2016, 2015, 2013, 2012 and 2010 vintages.
