Vineyard and terroir

Malvasia is a historic variety of the Friulian hills. It grows on poor, hilly marl soils of Eocene origin and favors warm, sunny exposures. The vines are trained to bilateral Guyot, with a stated yield of 55 q/ha.

Grapes

100% Malvasia, identified in the technical description as Malvasia Istriana.

Vinification

The fruit undergoes extended ripening before manual harvest in the first week of September. It is pressed at low temperature and then settled statically without sulfur dioxide. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks for 10–12 days at 16 °C.

Ageing

The wine matures in stainless steel for 8 months, followed by a minimum of 5 months in bottle.

Technical data

The 2019 wine has 14% alcohol, 5.61 g/L total acidity and 0.6 g/L residual sugar.

Tasting profile

Bright straw yellow with golden highlights. The fresh, rounded aroma balances marine or iodine-like nuances with flowers and sweet fruit. Creamy, rich and warm on the palate, it combines sweet-fruit impressions with freshness and finishes on clean, high acidity.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 13 °C. It pairs with appetizers and first courses prepared with either fish or meat.

Label / history

The first vintage was 1974.
