Vineyard and terroir
La Roggia is a single-vineyard dried-grape sweet red from the La Roggia vineyard within the Villa Giona estate, on the southeastern slopes of Monte Sausto in San Pietro in Cariano. The 2019 technical sheet places the vineyard at 140 m above sea level, while the wine page gives an altitude of 160 m. The soil is predominantly calcareous, with a gravel layer 50–60 cm below the surface that facilitates drainage. Vines are trained using a Casarsa system modified into the Verona pergola form.
Grapes
Corvina Veronese 65%, Rondinella 30% and other indigenous varieties 5%.
Vinification
For the 2019 vintage, the finest bunches were selected by hand during the first week of October. They dried for 110 days in fruit-drying rooms maintained under suitable temperature, humidity and ventilation conditions. The technical sheet records a 46% reduction in grape weight, while the wine page gives an approximate loss of 42%.
The dried grapes were processed on 20 January 2020 using a roller crusher-destemmer. Maceration and fermentation took place in stainless-steel tanks for 20 days at 18 °C, with periodic pump-overs. The skins were separated on 10 February, after which the wine was moved to 500 L casks and repeatedly racked for clarification. Cold conditions in the cellar encouraged fermentation to stop spontaneously, preserving the wine's sweetness.
Ageing
The 2019 technical sheet specifies 24 months in barriques followed by refinement in bottle. The wine page provides more detailed vessel information—225 L French-oak barriques—and specifies a further six months in bottle. The technical sheet also records a transfer to 500 L casks immediately after maceration and before barrique ageing.
Technical data
For the 2019 vintage: alcohol 13.3% vol.; residual sugar 116 g/L; total acidity 5.5 g/L; volatile acidity 0.58 g/L. The bottle format is 500 mL. The wine page gives a non-vintage-specific alcohol value of 13.5% vol.
Tasting profile

Serving and pairing
