Vineyard and terroir
Vigna di Piero is a gently sloping, 1.95 ha vineyard situated a few hundred metres from the winery at 410 m above sea level. Surrounded by woodland, it faces south-east and has clay-rich soil containing Galestro marl and abundant mineral components. Pierluigi Talenti developed his personal clonal selection here during the 1970s. Grapes from the site are selected separately for this bottling.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese trained to spurred cordon.
Vinification
Maceration and alcoholic fermentation take place under temperature control in stainless-steel tanks at 28–29°C.
Ageing
The wine matures for at least 24 months in 500-litre French-oak tonneaux, followed by several months in bottle before release.
Technical data
The current technical information is for the 2021 vintage. Alcohol is 14.5%. Available formats are 750 ml and 1.5 L.
Tasting profile
Intense red in colour. The complex, fresh nose combines ripe plum, blackberry and raspberry with maturation-derived notes of chocolate, tobacco and liquorice. Powerful and vibrant on the palate, it balances richness with smooth texture and concludes with sweet, elegant tannins and persistent flavour.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18°C. Pair with red meat, game, cold cuts or wild-boar ragù.
