Terroir
Tenuta Col di Noccioli extends across the hills facing Suvereto in Alta Maremma, close to the sea. The elevated landscape opens toward Elba and Capraia, while Suvereto itself is an ancient medieval settlement dominated by the 16th-century Aldobrandeschi fortress.
The terrain is rocky and steep. The climate is hot and dry, but maritime breezes temper the heat. This combination contributes to the elegance and ripe tannins achieved by Sangiovese Grosso grown on the estate.
Vinificazione
The Sangiovese Grosso and Canaiolo used for Sassirto are grown on the estate’s hills and trained to spurred cordon. Harvest takes place by hand in September and October.
The estate’s red-wine production is based on Sangiovese Grosso with a smaller proportion of Canaiolo. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats. Maturation continues for 12 months in French oak barrels, followed by six months in bottle.
Filosofia
The Maremma estate represents the realization of a winegrowing dream founded on the potential of its rocky coastal hills. Its identity is built around the interaction between Sangiovese, the hot and dry climate, and the moderating influence of maritime breezes, with the aim of obtaining elegance and fully ripe tannins.
