Vineyard and terroir

The grapes come from carefully selected vineyards in Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella, in the historic Valpolicella Classica area. The hillside sites lie at an average elevation of 300–350 metres and face south-east. Their predominantly Cretaceous, calcareous soils contain abundant stones. The Guyot-trained vines average 30 years of age, with approximately 5,000 plants per hectare and six to eight buds per vine. Yield is 80 quintals per hectare.

Grapes

85% Corvina Veronese, 10% Rondinella and 5% Oseleta and Croatina.

Vinification

Harvest takes place strictly by hand between the second half of September and the first half of October. Following careful selection, the bunches are arranged in crates with sufficient space for ventilation and dried naturally in the fruttaio for three to four months. The dried grapes are then crushed and remain on their skins for 15–20 days at 22°C.

Ageing

The wine matures for approximately four years in large oak casks of 30 and 65 hl, followed by further refinement in bottle.

Technical data

The 2020 Wine Club release is labelled at 16.5% alcohol. Serving temperature: 18°C.

Tasting profile

The colour is red, developing garnet tones with age. The bouquet is intense and enveloping, combining cherries in alcohol, dried plum, fig, sweet tobacco and fine spices with balsamic, leather and cocoa nuances. Warm, full and velvety on the palate, it has present tannins, good freshness and an imposing yet balanced structure. The long finish recalls ripe fruit, spices and light balsamic notes.

Label / history

This was Zenato’s first interpretation of Amarone and marked the beginning of its work in Valpolicella. Traditional grape drying shapes a structured, complex and velvety red intended to combine intensity with elegance.
