Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from 15 ha of vineyards at Tenuta Flaminio and Tenuta Castel Serranova. The limestone-clay soils are planted to vines trained as bilateral spurred cordons, with average production of 1.6 kg per vine. The technical sheet gives the exposure as north–south.
The Flaminio line takes its name from the historic vineyards situated on an ancient Messapian settlement near San Pietro Vernotico. It represents the Vallone family's interpretation of native grape varieties.
Grapes
100% Primitivo.
Vinification
Harvest takes place during the first ten days of October and combines manual and mechanical picking. The grapes undergo soft destemming and pressing, followed by temperature-controlled fermentation and post-fermentation maceration in thermoregulated stainless-steel tanks. Fermentation and maceration together last approximately 15 days, after which spontaneous malolactic fermentation takes place.
Ageing
The wine matures in cement vats and large 50 hl oak barrels, followed by three months in bottle.
Technical data
