Vineyard and terroir
Achille comes from the I Colli estate at Monteriggioni in Tuscany. The vineyards lie at approximately 300 m above sea level on Roccia della Montagnola and Alberese, a marly limestone soil. Vines are 10–15 years old and trained to spur cordon and Guyot.
Grapes
Sangiovese and Merlot; proportions are not specified.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel vats at a controlled 28°C, accompanied by approximately 15 days of maceration. Malolactic fermentation precedes transfer to barriques.
Ageing
The wine is refined in barriques at the I Colli estate after malolactic fermentation. The production summary also describes stainless-steel ageing and notes that, in certain years, the wine may undergo a brief passage in barrel.
Tasting profile
Intense ruby red. The concentrated, fruit-driven bouquet emphasizes ripe red fruit, cherries and blackberries. The palate is notably round, sweet-fruited and soft, leading to a persistent finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18°C after opening the bottle one hour in advance. Pair with white or red meat, roasted or salted meats, game, cheese, and traditional Mediterranean first courses. Store away from light at approximately 17°C.
Label / history
The wine is dedicated to Achille Sergardi, who devoted his life and energy to the Republic of Siena at the end of the fifteenth century.
