Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The wine comes from I Colli Estate in the Chianti Classico area of Tuscany, at approximately 350 metres above sea level. The 20-year-old vines grow in texturally rich Alberese, a marly limestone soil with abundant stony material, and are trained to spur cordon and Guyot.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel vats at a controlled temperature of 28–30°C. Skin maceration lasts 18 days. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine is transferred to large oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation takes place.
Ageing
Refinement continues in large oak barrels. After bottling, the wine rests in the cellar before release; neither period is specified.
Tasting profile
Intense ruby red. The bouquet brings together fruit, flowers and spices and reflects the Alberese soil. The palate is soft, fresh and lively, with well-judged acidity, sweet mature tannins and a long finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18°C and open at least one hour beforehand. Traditional pairings include roasted or cured red meat, game, cheese and Mediterranean first courses. Store horizontally at 15–17°C, protected from light. The ageing potential exceeds 15 years.
Label / history
The wine is dedicated to I Colli, the Bindi Sergardi hamlet described as the historical and spiritual home of 23 generations of the family. As a principal expression of the estate’s Sangiovese, the Riserva bears the estate’s name.
