Vineyard and terroir

The wine comes from I Colli Estate at Monteriggioni in Tuscany, at approximately 300 metres above sea level. The terrain contains abundant stony material derived from the rock of the Montagnola hills. The vines are 10–15 years old and trained to spur cordon and Guyot.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese.

Vinification

The grapes are destemmed and macerated for approximately 10 days in stainless-steel tanks. Alcoholic fermentation takes place during maceration at 25°C, preserving the variety’s fruit and floral character. After racking, the wine completes malolactic fermentation.

Ageing

The wine ages for approximately six months at I Colli Estate before bottling, principally in stainless steel. In certain years it may also receive a short passage in barrel.

Tasting profile

Ruby red, fresh and pleasantly rounded. The elegant bouquet combines fresh fruit and floral tones, recalling cherries, strawberries, pink grapefruit and violets. The palate is well structured, soft and harmonious. It is intended to be enjoyed young, while its freshness and aromatic character are at their most expressive.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18°C. Pair with pasta, white or red meat, and cheese. Store at a constant 17°C, protected from light. The ageing potential exceeds five years.

Label / history

Al Canapo is dedicated to Siena and its traditions. The “canapo” is the rope marking the starting line of the Palio horse race, an emblem of the city. The name also reflects the Bindi Sergardi family’s connection with Siena and the Palio tradition since the Middle Ages.
