Vineyard and terroir
La Boncia takes its name from the vineyard supplying its grapes, a name chosen to express gratitude for the generosity of the land. The vineyard lies at I Colli in Monteriggioni, Tuscany, at approximately 300 m above sea level. Its stony terrain contains rock from the Montagnola hills. The vines are 10–15 years old and trained to spur cordon and Guyot.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Vinification
After destemming, the grapes macerate for approximately 10 days in stainless-steel tanks. Alcoholic fermentation takes place during this period at no more than 25°C, preserving the wine’s fruit and floral expression. After racking, malolactic fermentation is completed by the end of winter.
Ageing
The wine matures in stainless steel and is bottled in spring. In certain years, it may receive a brief passage in barrel.
Tasting profile
Ruby red. The full, intense bouquet combines grapefruit with red-fruit notes recalling cherries and raspberries. The palate is smooth and balanced, with gentle tannins and a persistent varietal character. It is approachable and intended to be enjoyed young, when its freshness and bouquet are most vivid.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18°C with pasta, white or red meat, and cheese. Store away from light at a constant temperature of 17°C. Ageing potential is five years.
