Vineyard and terroir
Produced in Montalcino, Tuscany, from vineyards situated in the south-eastern and south-western areas. The soil is stony and marly, with abundant skeletal material. Planting density is 4,600 vines per hectare, and yields are 60–70 quintals per hectare. The vines are trained to a balanced unilateral spurred cordon.

Vinification
Harvest takes place from September through October. Fermentation begins spontaneously without the addition of selected yeasts and is carried out in 50 hL oak vats. Intensive pump-overs are performed during the initial stage, while the temperature is controlled at a maximum of 30 °C. The wine undergoes a long maceration on the skins.
Ageing
Maturation lasts 24–30 months in Slavonian oak barrels ranging from 7 to 30 hL.
