Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from Alta Maremma in the Colline Metallifere area. The vineyards are planted at 8,500 vines per hectare, trained to spur-pruned cordon and managed through integrated pest management. The clay soils have a medium-high proportion of stones and are rich in minerals and pink marble, a basic rock present in the estate's soils.
Grapes
100% Syrah.
Vinification
Harvest is by hand into 15 kg crates during the second and third weeks of September. Temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel for 10 days, followed by 25 days of post-fermentation maceration.
Ageing
The wine matures for 15–17 months in first-use French oak barriques. It is bottled in summer and rests for several months before release.
Technical data
Average production is limited to 1,500 bottles.
Tasting profile
Intense ruby red. Red-fruit aromas are joined by cinnamon, nutmeg, tobacco and other spicy notes. The palate is full-bodied, fresh and powerful, with elegant tannins.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16–18°C. Suggested pairings include pumpkin dishes, roast meat, tagliatelle with mushrooms, aged cheeses, bistecca alla Fiorentina, sliced beef, fillet with green peppercorn sauce, oven-roasted pork shank and game.
Label / history
When asked which wine he preferred, Virgilio—who founded Tua Rita with his wife Rita—would answer, “Syrah, forever.” The wine grew out of his determination and desire to experiment. First produced in 2001, it remains a very limited-production flagship. The label is dedicated to Virgilio and to the love of the territory, respect for it and continual pursuit of quality that he passed on to the estate's team.
