Vineyard and terroir
The production area lies in Alta Maremma, in the Metalliferous Hills. The clay soil contains a medium-to-high proportion of stones and is rich in minerals and pink marble, a basic rock present in the estate's soils. The vineyard is planted at 4,000 vines per hectare and trained to Guyot. Integrated pest management is practiced.
Grapes
100% Vermentino.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand into 15 kg crates during the first and second weeks of September. They spend one night in cold storage before gentle pressing. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at low temperature.
Ageing
Maturation takes place in stainless steel.
Technical data
Toscana Vermentino Indicazione Geografica Tipica. Average production is 23,000 bottles.
Tasting profile
Bright straw yellow. Mediterranean scrub aromas lead the nose, particularly oregano, set against citrus notes. The palate is fresh, pleasantly savoury and mineral, with unexpectedly persistent aromatics.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 10–12 °C. Pair with land- or seafood-based starters, vegetarian first courses, shellfish, white fish, cured meats, fresh cheeses, white meats or raw fish.
History
First produced in 1992, the wine is Tua Rita's interpretation of Vermentino, the characteristic white variety of the Tuscan coast. Its identity is presented as a meeting point between the Metalliferous Hills and the Tyrrhenian Sea.
