Vineyard and terroir
Selected red varieties from the Orvietano Rosso DOC area are harvested by hand at full maturity. The wine is certified organic.
Grapes
2021: 60% Sangiovese and 40% Cabernet.
Vinification
The must undergoes an initial 20% saignée, followed by ten days of skin contact. Punch-downs and pump-overs continue until alcoholic fermentation is complete, with the temperature controlled at no more than 24°C. Malolactic fermentation takes place in French-oak barriques.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months in French oak and rests in bottle for at least another year after bottling.
Technical data
2021 vintage. DOC Rosso Orvietano, certified organic. Alcohol: 15%. Total acidity: 4.95 g/L. pH: 3.97. Closed with natural cork.
Tasting profile
Intense ruby red with violet reflections. The nose is concentrated and harmonious, combining red fruit with vegetal nuances. The savoury, rounded palate has velvety tannins, ripe red-cherry fruit and a delicate vanilla note that unfolds in the glass. The finish is long and balanced.
Serving and pairing
Pairs with rustic Umbrian first courses, game, grilled dishes and medium-aged cheeses.
Label / history
The label refers to “Pietre di Luce,” a painting created by Orvieto artist Livio Orazio Valentini for the seventh centenary of Orvieto Cathedral. Its mosaic-like forms provide the visual analogy for the varieties composing Rosso Orvietano.
