About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Tenuta Montenisa lies in the heart of Franciacorta, around Borgo di Calino near Lake Iseo. The vineyards surrounding the Maggi family villa have formed the centre of Marchese Antinori Franciacorta production since 1999.

Grapes

Pinot Nero. Its varietal character defines the wine, although the precise percentage is not specified.

Vinification

Free-run must underwent the first alcoholic fermentation in stainless-steel tanks. Secondary fermentation took place in bottle, followed by 24 months in contact with the lees.

Ageing

Twenty-four months on the lees in bottle.

Tasting profile

Pale onion-skin in colour, with creamy foam and a fine, persistent perlage. The aroma is fragrant and assertive, expressing Pinot Nero with light nuances of dried wildflowers. Freshness is balanced by structure on a harmonious, elegant palate.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 7–9 °C. Pair with shellfish, pigeon or other white meats. Its balance also suits berry-based desserts and moderately bitter chocolate.
