About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The 7 ha Vigna del Capannino vineyard is located on a hillside in Castellina in Chianti, within the historic Chianti area. Surrounded by olive groves, it lies at 270–310 m above sea level and has a south-west exposure and a favourable microclimate. The site overlooks Monteriggioni Castle. Its soils combine pale blue Pliocene clay, deep schistous Alberese clay and limestone.
Grapes
The wine is produced solely from Sangiovese Grosso of a clone grown in Vigna del Capannino. It is made only in selected vintages.
Vinification
The wine is produced organically. The grapes were harvested and selected by hand, then fermented in concrete tanks for 33 days, with délestage during fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matured for 24 months, partly in concrete vats and partly in French oak tonneaux and Slavonian oak barrels. It then rested in bottle for a further six months in the estate’s cellars.
Tasting profile
The 2019 vintage is juicy and precise, with an almost decadent yet consistently elegant character.
Vintage notes
In 2019, a fairly mild winter was followed by a rainy spring marked by sharp temperature peaks. The summer was hot and windy, with rain arriving at opportune times. Warm, dry autumn conditions allowed harvesting in the first half of October.
