About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit is grown on poor volcanic marl soils in Soave’s classic zone. Very hot, dry conditions significantly reduce yields.
Vinification
Only very ripe, healthy bunches are selected and dried until the end of January. After gentle pressing, the wine ferments slowly for four months in new oak barrels.
Ageing
The wine spends an extended period on its lees, with bâtonnage twice a week, followed by a further long period of bottle ageing in the winery’s cellars before release.
Label / history
Abele Bolla founded the small winery in Veneto in 1883. Its wines won a gold medal at a competition in Bologna in 1909. The winery produced its first Amarone vintage in 1950. In the late 1960s, Brown-Forman acquired a 40% stake and began selling Bolla wines in the United States.
