About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Montepulciano is grown in vineyards in Abruzzo. The wine belongs to the "Vola Vole Maiella National Park" range, created around the biodiversity of Maiella National Park, one of Italy's relatively young protected natural areas. Every wine in the range is certified organic, biodynamic and vegan.
The yeast used for this wine comes from pollen collected in Le Forre, an area of gorges on Maiella. Over several million years, water flowing across the surface of Maiella has cut deep into the rock layers, forming vertical limestone walls and deep, inaccessible gorges. That inaccessibility has kept them in a pristine natural state. The gorges are filled with dense vegetation, including peonies, daphne and ferns, with bellflowers and saxifrages on the rock walls and centuries-old black pines overhead, where alpine swifts nest.
Grapes
The wine is a dry organic rosé.
Vinification
After harvest the grapes undergo a short maceration, which gives the wine its delicate pink colour and bright, fresh aroma. Fermentation is cold and uses natural yeasts, with no added sulfites. The yeasts derive from pollen of columbine and medicinal peony. In the 2022 vintage the service tree was also selected among the plants. Once cold fermentation is complete, the wine is bottled.
Tasting profile
Delicate pink colour and a bright, fresh aroma.
