About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Campo Romano is a Cascine Drago vineyard established between 1975 and 1977 following Tino Colla’s work and study experience in Burgundy. Because Pinot Nero planting material was unavailable from Piedmontese nurseries in 1975, the vines were purchased and brought directly from Burgundy. The recorded planting year is 1977.
Grapes
100% Pinot Nero from Burgundy-sourced vines.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed and crushed. Maceration on the skins lasts 8–10 days at approximately 30°C. Malolactic fermentation is completed before winter.
Ageing
Approximately one year in oak casks.
Technical data
Alcohol: 12.5–13.5% vol. Total acidity: 5–5.5 g/L. Dry extract: 23–25 g/L.
Tasting profile
Delicate garnet red. The fine nose offers griotte cherry, tobacco and spices. Ripe-fruit flavours shape the palate, with fresh, rounded tannins well integrated into the wine’s body. The aromas show good length and persistence, together with good ageing potential.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 14–16°C in a fairly large glass that allows the wine’s volume to open. Pair with agnolotti or roasted poultry.
Label / history
The name Campo Romano recalls the Roman remains uncovered while preparing the site for planting: fragments of bricks and roof tiles, as well as amphorae associated with a Roman settlement.
