About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Produced at Cascine Drago within the Nebbiolo d’Alba production zone, close to the boundary of the Barbaresco area. The source vines were planted in 1967, 1989 and 1999.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed and crushed. Maceration on the skins lasts 10–12 days at a maximum temperature of 28–30°C. Malolactic fermentation is completed before winter.

Ageing

Approximately one year in large oak casks. This maturation is intended to make the wine more approachable in its early years than Barolo or Barbaresco.

Technical data

Alcohol: 13–14% vol. Total acidity: 5–5.5 g/L, expressed as tartaric acid. Dry extract: 24–26 g/L.

Tasting profile

Garnet red. The complex nose combines plum, spices, red berries, dried rose and violet. The palate is direct and savoury, with substantial tannins integrated into the wine’s structure. Good length and persistence lead to a fruit-and-spice finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 15–17°C in a fairly large glass that allows the wine’s volume to open. Suitable throughout a meal, with a particular affinity for pasta in meat sauce and meat-based main courses.
