About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards of the family-owned Tenuta Talamonti estate are set in countryside near the medieval village of Loreto Aprutino in Abruzzo. The plots lie at 300 m above sea level, at the foot of the Gran Sasso mountain range, and benefit from distinctive soils and a particular microclimate.
Vinification
The grapes are generally harvested by hand in mid-October and destemmed at the winery. Fermentation and a 10-day maceration on the skins take place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, with the cap punched down daily during fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matures for six months in 34 hl French oak casks, followed by three months in bottle before release.
Tasting profile
Juicy.
Label / history
Part of the “Diversitas” range, which celebrates Italy’s biodiversity, the wine takes its name from the Italian word for hare. The label refers to the Corsican or Apennine hare, a species native to central and southern Italy and found in both mountain and coastal areas. Hunting threatens Italy’s free-ranging hare populations and may cause local disappearances. The wine is certified vegan by Just Vegan.
