About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in Colline Teramane, the only area in Abruzzo with DOCG status. Villa Medoro’s 17 ha vineyard lies at 200 m above sea level on clay-limestone soils.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in October. Vinification involves 25 days of skin contact and 25 days of fermentation in stainless-steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation in barriques.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months in new French oak barriques and then rests in bottle for 6–8 months.
Tasting profile
It has a distinctive style while retaining the classic character of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.
Label / history
Medoro is a small village near Atri, close to the Teramo hills overlooking the Adriatic Sea. The Medoro family has made wine there since the early 1970s. In 1997, Federico, the family’s third generation, began a new phase for Villa Medoro. The family owns 92 ha of vineyards, and the estate produces 300,000 bottles annually.
