About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the single Poggio all’Oro vineyard, established in 1979 in the southern part of the Brunello di Montalcino region. Its 24 hectares of rolling terrain lie at 250 m above sea level and have fertile soil and a particularly favourable microclimate.
The grapes are allowed to ripen fully before being harvested by hand and selected.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place under temperature control in French barriques and stainless-steel tanks for 14–20 days, followed by malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matures for 30 months in dried and toasted French barriques, followed by 16 months in bottle.
Vintage notes
In 2007, a mild winter brought an early start to the growing season and early flowering. Heavy rain in late May and early June replenished the soil with enough water to sustain the vines through a hot June. The harvest began one week earlier than expected and continued in ideal weather until mid-October.
Label / history
Produced only in exceptional vintages, Poggio all’Oro was first made in 1985.
