About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Selected Colorino from estate vineyards. The wine inaugurated a project devoted to secondary varieties that do not play a leading role in the estate’s better-known wines, using only the finest grapes in vintages especially favourable to each variety.

Grapes

100% Colorino.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand and gently destemmed. Indigenous yeasts carry out spontaneous alcoholic fermentation for seven days at a controlled 28–29°C, accompanied by light pump-overs and frequent délestage. Maceration continues for another 15–18 days with gentle wetting of the cap. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks.

Ageing

The wine spends 12 months in second- and third-use small French oak barrels, selected to preserve Colorino’s natural fruit and characteristic spice. Bottle maturation lasts at least six months.

Vintage notes

The current shop offering is the 2021 vintage. That season produced a small Tuscan crop after April frost and summer heat and drought, while sunny September weather, useful day-to-night temperature variation, light rain and good ventilation supported ripening. The portfolio also presents 2020, 2016 and 2015 growing-season notes. The 2016 season was regular and free of major vineyard-health problems; late-August rain relieved water stress and allowed balanced ripening.
