About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Nipozzano Riserva is the emblematic wine of Castello Nipozzano, a historic estate situated a few kilometres north-east of Florence. It is presented as an expression of Tuscan wine tradition and of the estate's close connection with its terroir.

Grapes

Sangiovese with complementary varieties. Exact proportions for the 2023 vintage are not specified.

Vinification

The grapes were brought to the cellar immediately after harvest and destemmed. Spontaneous fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. The wine remained in the same vats to complete maceration. After racking, malolactic fermentation was also carried out in stainless steel.

Ageing

At the end of the year, the wine was transferred to barriques and matured for several months. A subsequent period in bottle brought the components into greater expressive balance.

Technical data

The 2023 vintage has 13% alcohol.

Tasting profile

Nipozzano Riserva 2023 is a bright, vibrant ruby red. Elegant floral scents and delicate fruit open the bouquet. With air, nutmeg and clove appear, followed by tertiary notes of coffee and roasting. Balsamic freshness runs through the aromatic profile. The palate is rich, balancing concentrated fruit with a mineral freshness that extends the finish. The tannins are dense without being gritty, and taste and aroma remain harmonious.

Vintage notes

The generally mild winter of 2023 included a few incisively cold weeks that supported proper vine dormancy. Heavy rain early in the year replenished soil reserves, while spring—especially May through mid-June—remained cool and wet. July was exceptionally hot and prolonged, but the accumulated water supply sustained the vines. Cooler conditions from late July reduced early water stress and permitted balanced ripening. The wines combine sunny character with balance, depth and harmony.
