About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Nipozzano Vecchie Viti is produced from the oldest vines at Castello Nipozzano. Their deep root systems define the wine’s origin.
Grapes
Sangiovese and traditional complementary varieties.
Vinification
The grapes are taken to the cellar immediately after harvest and destemmed. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in concrete tanks, where the wine remains to complete maceration.
Ageing
The wine matures for 24 months in oak barrels in keeping with traditional Tuscan practice. A subsequent period in bottle brings the components into greater balance.
Technical data
The 2023 vintage has 13% alcohol. Available formats are Bordeaux 0.75 L and Magnum 1.5 L.
Tasting profile
Nipozzano Vecchie Viti 2023 is an intense ruby red. Violet and dog rose introduce the bouquet, followed by red and black berries. Balsamic and citrus nuances emerge next, with elegant spice on the finish. The palate is fresh and savoury, supported by well-balanced tannins and a long, persistent finish.
Vintage notes
A very mild winter in 2023 was interrupted by several colder weeks that ensured adequate vine dormancy. Abundant rain early in the year replenished soil-water reserves. Cool, rainy conditions continued from May to mid-June before prolonged heat arrived in July. The reserves sustained the vines, while cooler temperatures from late July relieved initial water stress and favoured continued ripening. The vintage combines warmth with balance, depth and harmony.
Label / history
The wine continues the Frescobaldi family tradition of setting aside a Private Collection for newborn family members.
