About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown on hills around Vinci and Cerreto Guidi and in the surrounding area. The land was seabed four million years ago, and ancient fossils remain among the vineyard rows.
Grapes
The blend is based on Sangiovese, with Merlot and other red varieties.
Vinification
The grapes are gently crushed and fermented on the skins for eight days at a controlled temperature of 28–29 °C. Frequent pumping over and délestage contribute to the wine’s intense, persistent fruit aroma.
Ageing
The wine remains in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks until bottling in March.
Tasting profile
The aroma is intensely fruity and persistent.
Label / history
The label features the Vitruvian Man as a tribute to Leonardo da Vinci, the artist and inventor after whom Cantina Leonardo da Vinci is named. The cooperative was founded in 1961 by 30 small wineries, which combined their resources to build a shared cellar. Its vineyards then covered 70 hectares and have since expanded to approximately 750 hectares. In the late twentieth century, it acquired Fattoria Montalbano and Cantina di Montalcino. DalleVigne, established in 2002 to market and distribute the cooperative’s wines, is now part of Caviro.
