About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow on the hills of Vinci, Cerreto Guidi and the surrounding area in Tuscany. The vineyard land formed part of the seabed four million years ago, and ancient fossils remain among the vine rows.
Grapes
Sangiovese forms the basis of the blend, complemented by Merlot and other red varieties.
Vinification
For the 2020 vintage, the grapes were harvested between 20 September and 10 October. After gentle crushing, they underwent approximately eight days of skin maceration and fermentation at a controlled temperature of 28–29 °C. Frequent pumping over and délestage were used to develop an intense, persistent fruit aroma.
Ageing
The wine remained in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks until it was bottled in March of the following year.
Tasting profile
The aroma is intensely fruity and persistent.
Label / history
The label features Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man. Cantina Leonardo da Vinci was founded in 1961 by 30 small wineries, which combined their resources to build a shared cellar; their vineyards then covered 70 hectares and have since expanded to approximately 750 hectares. In the late 20th century, the cooperative acquired Fattoria Montalbano and Cantina di Montalcino. The DalleVigne organization was established in 2002 to market the cooperative’s wines and distribute them to the HoReCa sector in more than 50 countries; it later became part of Caviro.
Caviro was founded in 1966 as a cooperative of independent wine producers. It brings together 34 independent wine estates and more than 13,000 vineyards. Its average annual production is approximately 500 million litres, of which more than 200 million litres are exported.
