Celso

Celso belongs to Firriato’s group of five viticultural estates in the Trapani countryside of Sicily and is placed within the group’s hilly-viticulture context. This approach treats terroir as the aptitude of a particular place for a particular form of viticulture, acknowledging that the same grape variety can develop distinct characteristics even across sites separated by only a few kilometres.

Celso is included among five Trapani-countryside estates whose hilly viticulture is organized around protecting and enhancing the biodiversity of historic grape varieties and their habitats. The objective is to grow grapes whose characteristics retain a recognizable connection to their place of origin.

The guiding principle is that terroir expresses a place’s particular aptitude for viticulture and that even nearby sites can give the same variety different characteristics. At Celso and the other Trapani-countryside estates, this translates into an emphasis on the biodiversity of historic grape varieties and habitats, with the aim of carrying identifiable traits of origin from the land into the resulting wines.
