About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit is grown on south-facing hills in Sant’Angelo, Siena, at 250 m above sea level. The vines are planted at high density and yield 85 quintals per hectare.
Vinification
The grapes are selected and harvested early in the morning to avoid excessive heat. They are chilled to 8–10 °C, gently pressed and separated from the juice. Fermentation lasts 10–12 days at 16–18 °C.
Ageing
The wine is aged in French oak barrels. The 2010 vintage was bottled at the end of December.
Label / history
The estate’s vineyard history began in the first half of the 17th century, when the Ciaia family, noble knights from Siena, settled in Sant’Angelo and acquired Colle. Count Alberto Marone Cinzano acquired Col d'Orcia in 1973 to develop the estate and establish it on the international market.
