Label / history
According to a legend dating the name to the 12th century, Bishop Giovanni Defuk accompanied Emperor Henry V on a journey through Italy and sent his page, Martino, ahead toward Montefiascone to announce the monarch’s arrival and find an inn serving good wine. Martino was instructed to mark suitable places by writing “Est!” on the door. Finding the wine in Montefiascone exceptionally good, he wrote the word three times and added three exclamation marks after the final one.
