About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in the hills of the commune of Roncà, on the slopes of the extinct volcanoes Calvarina and Crocetta. The mineral-rich volcanic soils consist of lava and tuff formed by Miocene eruptions around 40 million years ago. A moderate climate, marked differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures, and air currents from the Alps support ripening. The estate follows a minimal-environmental-impact approach.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested entirely by hand. Each bunch is selected for quality, placed in 20 kg crates and taken directly to the winery, where it spends around 48 hours in temperature- and humidity-controlled rooms. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 11–15 °C.
Ageing
The wine rests on its fine lees for 12 months in large oak barrels, followed by at least eight months in bottle.
Tasting profile
The volcanic soils give the wine a mineral character.
Label / history
This was the first wine made by Tenuta Corte Giacobbe.
